Do Dogs Go to Heaven? Bible, Kuran & Jewish traditions

Many religious people believe that animals have no souls. This is while owning dogs as pets– perhaps the ultimate conundrum. Not only do they love their dogs as much as anyone else, but they also acknowledge that their animals have emotions and personalities– elements that make up a soul. These elements just aren’t powerful enough to cause the dog to cross over when it dies.

So, what’s the deal here? Why do so many religious people believe that humans are worthy of an Afterlife but animals aren’t? Well, in my opinion, this is a belief that has been perpetuated among Abrahamic religions, especially Christianity. And the reason why is because it’s believed that mankind is at the center of the universe, since he can recognize right from wrong. Animals, working from instinct, do not have that ability, thus they are not as worthy of a heavenly Afterlife.

Yet, if you actually look at various holy writings, you will see that the ancients, (and perhaps even God Himself), took a different view. Consider the following verses from the Bible:

ECCLESIASTES 3:19-21 - These verses bluntly state that the fate of mankind and the animals are the same. And ultimately, who knows whether or not a man’s spirit rises upward and the animal’s spirit downward, (into the earth).

PSALM 136:25 – This verse says that God gives food to EVERY creature because He has everlasting love for them.

LUKE 12:6 – This verse is very deep, as it states that God doesn’t forget the sparrows, even if they are sold for two pennies.

PROVERBS 12:10 – Here mankind is encouraged to care for his animals.

Other Abrahamic religions also contain similar teachings, ESPECIALLY in regard to animal cruelty. Consider ancient Judaic traditions, where animal cruelty was actually outlawed long before such a practice was accepted in Western nations.

Islam teaches similar principles, as people are not encouraged to cage or beat their animals. Muhammad even took things a step further by saying that Allah will judge those who harm even a sparrow without a good reason.

So, with all that being said, why would God encourage people to write these things if dogs and other animals really didn’t have an Afterlife? If they’re going to rot away in the ground anyway, why bother to treat them respectfully or spend tons of money on pet insurance for them?

I mean, I admit I don’t know for sure if dogs go to heaven when they die. And I, (along with everyone else), won’t know 100% until they die as well. But looking at the religious evidence already given here, and considering the loving nature of the dog, I’d be really surprised if they didn’t make it to the other side!
