The Truth Behind the Fat Cat

The Truth Behind the Fat Cat

Western society often celebrates the “fat cat.” They are seen as being happy, festive and loving. Some even think that because they’re fat they must be healthy. But in reality, fat cats are far from being happy or healthy. This is because the extra weight makes life much harder for them.

In fact, even if a fat cat doesn’t develop a serious weight-related disease, (such as feline diabetes), they could still be suffering. Why? Well, the extra weight puts a strain on their body. As a result, they become tired and lethargic. This ends up making their weight problem even worse because they’re unable to exercise for effective weight loss.

Before considering taking your cat to some form of weight loss clinic, consider using your own techniques to help it first. You will want to start your cat’s weight loss regime by making changes to their diet. This begins by feeding them cat food with a weight-control formula. The most effective brands will provide larger amounts of protein, since protein helps convert fat into energy.

Next, you will want to limit your cat’s food servings to 3 times a day. Make sure you’re feeding them the recommended amount of food, otherwise the cat will still remain fat. In addition, you will want to totally abolish “free choice” feeding. If a cat doesn’t eat their food within an hour or so, you need to pick it up and give it to them during their next feeding. This may pain you, because you know your furry friend is going to be hungry. But once they get used to the schedule, they’ll know they need to eat their food once you put it down.

Finally, you need to forego giving your cat edible treats, (at least until they get the weight off). If you want to reward good behavior, give them a cat toy instead. This will encourage them to exercise their bodies, which is a must if you want their dieting regime to stick. And, as their weight lowers, they should have more energy to move around.
