These days, many fearful behaviors (like getting frightened from loud, out-of-nowhere sounds leading to destruction and escaping) can be successfully resolved.
The first thing you can do to help your dog is create a safe place to go, whether it is access to the house or a “hidey hall”. Please notice, however, that not all dogs are helped to become less fearful with such places, for some prefer to be more active when frightened.
Distracting your dog is another method that works best when your dog is just beginning to get anxious. When the dog is still in the watchful stage, try to interest it in doing something that it usually enjoys. If you cannot keep the dog’s attention, stop the process immediately.
You can always use the behavior modification techniques in reducing those fears and phobias. They teach your dog to respond in non-fearful ways to the things that previously frightened it. To implement these techniques, you will need some professional assistance.
