Your dog is the leader IF:
Naturally you are the leader WHEN:
You must stick to this a 100% of the time because it will confuse and frustrate your dog if you suddenly give them the space to lead you. If we don’t put structure into the relationships with our dogs, guess who will? The dogs! If we do not give them the leadership they need, they will fill that vacant role themselves. For the dog to feel balanced he must connect to a stable leader. Let that be you.

Most dog owners believe that loving their dog and cuddling with him a lot is what will make the dog happy. They do not consider that affection does not equal leadership and without leadership the dog is lost, no matter how much love and affection he gets.
Fulfillment means fulfilling your life in the way nature intended it, whether you are a dog or a horse or a human.
Ffection and love make humans happy, not dogs. Dogs don’t need affection from us to feel balanced and happy. Those are human needs. We NEED to remember this in our relationships with our dogs. After all, the best leadership skill is assertion, not cuddling. You will only connect with your dog and feel in tune with him when you fulfill him on a primal level as nature intended it.
In the dog world, waiting is a part of their nature. They have to wait to eat.
Domestication means that dogs don't have to hunt for food but they still have to work for food. As newborns, puppies work for food by waiting for their mom. This offers a form of psychological exercise, and it is very important for a healthy mind.
Don’t feed dogs that show negative behaviors such as aggression or nervousness. Wait until the dogs have calmed down and display submissive energy before you put down the food in front of them. Before my dogs eat I take them for a 45 minute walk. In this way I allow my dogs to work for their food.
Every morning, should go like this: Project calm, assertive energy before you show your dog affection. Take your dog on a 45 min. Walk to exercise his body and mind. Once back home, prepare his food. Ask your dog to sit while you are filling his bowl. If he sits quietly and projects calm, submissive energy with no negative behaviors, place the bowl of food in front of him.
From your dog’s perspective, this is how nature intended dogs to live in order to have a happy and balanced life.
